Professional Profile:

Cérélia's newly established Frozen Breakfast Business Unit – US Waffle – is driving an ambitious growth strategy, supported by manufacturing facilities in Liberty, SC, and Hazelwood, MO. To support the rapid growth of our state-of-the-art Hazelwood facility, US Waffle is seeking a dynamic, highly hands-on Sanitation Supervisor.
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for the daily execution of sanitation activities across assigned production areas and shifts, ensuring equipment, production lines, and facility areas are cleaned, inspected, and released safely and on time. This is a working supervisor role requiring a highly visible, hands-on leader who spends the majority of the shift on the floor directly leading, training, coaching, and working alongside the Sanitation team.
A primary responsibility of this role is developing, implementing, and continuously improving Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and ensuring the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) is executed completely and on time. The Sanitation Supervisor will verify that cleaning methods are effective, repeatable, documented, and understood by the employees performing the work. The Supervisor is expected to personally understand the cleaning process for each assigned piece of equipment and actively participate when the team needs support.
In our fast-paced startup and growth environment, the Sanitation Supervisor will work closely with FSQA, Production, Maintenance, and Engineering to improve hygienic conditions, eliminate recurring sanitation failures, support allergen and food-safety controls, and ensure equipment is returned to Production clean, safe, and ready for startup. This role requires urgency, ownership, strong follow-through, and a willingness to get directly involved in the work.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide hands-on leadership and direction for Sanitation employees during assigned shifts, ensuring cleaning activities are completed safely, correctly, completely, and on schedule.
  • Spend the majority of the shift on the sanitation floor actively supervising and working alongside employees. This is not a desk-based supervisory position.
  • Develop, document, implement, and continuously improve SSOPs for production equipment, processing areas, packaging equipment, floors, walls, drains, overheads, utensils, and other sanitation-controlled areas.
  • Ensure every SSOP clearly defines required disassembly, cleaning steps, chemicals, concentrations, temperatures, tools, contact times, inspection points, reassembly requirements, and safety precautions.
  • Own daily execution of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS). Ensure all scheduled tasks are assigned, completed on time, documented accurately, verified, and escalated immediately when they cannot be completed.
  • Train, coach, and develop Sanitation Leads and Sanitors on SSOPs, chemical safety, equipment disassembly/reassembly, allergen cleaning, hygienic practices, PPE, LOTO, and proper use of sanitation tools and equipment.
  • Partner closely with FSQA to ensure sanitation verification requirements are met, including pre-operational inspections, ATP testing, allergen/gluten verification, environmental monitoring follow-up, and corrective actions as applicable.
  • Investigate sanitation failures, failed inspections, positive or out-of-specification results, recurring equipment issues, and startup delays. Identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and verify sustained effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with Production and Maintenance to ensure equipment is properly disassembled, accessible for cleaning, repaired when hygienic conditions are compromised, and returned to Production within required startup timelines.
  • Establish standard work, shift assignments, cleaning sequences, labor plans, and clear expectations so every employee understands what must be cleaned, how it must be cleaned, and when it must be completed.
  • Drive continuous improvement in sanitation effectiveness, labor efficiency, cleaning time, chemical and water usage, equipment care, and production startup performance without compromising food safety or employee safety.
  • Evaluate staffing, attendance, skills, shift coverage, and training needs to ensure the Sanitation team is properly organized and capable of executing the sanitation plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or of a similar nature or level.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Operations, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of sanitation experience in food manufacturing with demonstrated leadership of sanitation employees or teams preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills strongly preferred.
  • Strong hands-on sanitation leadership with the ability and willingness to spend significant time on the floor, including directly participating in sanitation work when required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, training, and improving SSOPs and ensuring consistent execution by sanitation employees.
  • Working knowledge of food manufacturing sanitation practices, GMPs, allergen controls, chemical handling, ATP verification, environmental monitoring, LOTO, and pre-operational inspection requirements.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, communication, problem-solving, root-cause analysis, and follow-through skills with the ability to hold employees accountable to defined standards.
  • Ability to use sanitation records, checklists, electronic systems, and performance reporting tools to track completion, identify gaps, and drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Bakery, frozen food, ready-to-eat, or other food manufacturing sanitation experience strongly preferred.
Direct Reports
The Sanitation Supervisor will have direct responsibility for Sanitation Leads, Sanitors, and other Sanitation personnel as assigned, including responsibility for daily work assignments, coaching, performance management, training, development, and execution of SSOP and MSS requirements.

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
