Job Summary
The Shipping Clerk – Frozen Foods is responsible for accurately preparing, verifying, and processing outgoing shipments of frozen food products. This role ensures product quality, inventory accuracy, and compliance with food safety and cold chain regulations while working in a temperature-controlled environment.
2nd Shift - M-F, 2PM until 10:30PM
3rd Shift - M-F, 10PM until 6:30AM
- Prepare and process shipping documents (bills of lading, packing slips, invoices).
- Verify product quantities, lot numbers, and expiration dates before shipment.
- Pick, pack, label, and stage frozen food products for distribution.
- Coordinate with warehouse staff and transportation providers to ensure timely deliveries.
- Maintain accurate shipping and inventory records in warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Ensure compliance with food safety standards (HACCP, FDA, USDA regulations).
- Monitor freezer temperatures and report discrepancies.
- Inspect shipments for damage and ensure proper cold chain handling.
- Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and forklifts (if certified).
- Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA guidelines.
- Assist with inventory counts and cycle counts as needed.
- Temperature-controlled frozen storage environment (typically -10°F to 0°F).
- Physically demanding role requiring lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout shifts.
- May require early morning, evening and occasional weekend, or holiday shifts.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1+ year of shipping/warehouse experience preferred.
- Experience in food distribution or cold storage environment preferred.
- Knowledge of shipping documentation and procedures.
- Basic computer skills (WMS, ERP systems, Microsoft Office).
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in cold environments for extended periods.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Forklift certification.
- Food safety training (HACCP knowledge).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly.
- Ability to work in sub-zero temperatures.
- Manual dexterity for labeling and documentation.
